“I scaled Minea to $750K MRR and Dropmagic to $120K MRR”
Editor's note: Loïc Berthelot is a French software engineer with more than ten years of experience who previously scaled Minea, a product-research tool for e-commerce, which he says peaked at 750K MRR. He is not a non-coder: in the Starter Story interview he lists 'Cursor and Claude Code to actually develop the solution' in his stack (with Supabase, Next.js, Vercel, Sentry and Trigger.dev), and in October 2026 he wrote on X that he does 'almost zero coding anymore, I just chat with Claude Code all day long'. Dropmagic has three co-founders, one of them a YouTube creator in the e-commerce niche, so distribution was not starting from zero. He spent summer 2026 building a Dropmagic v2.
How they got customers
Mostly YouTube creators: the founder says more than 60% of new customers come from YouTube. One co-founder is a YouTube creator who uses the product and promotes it, which he says secured the first 10K MRR; after that they paid other creators a fixed fee plus commission, starting with one video and moving to multi-video deals once a creator broke even.
Steps to try
Put distribution in the founding team; a creator co-founder de-risks the launch and gives you product and marketing feedback.
From the sourceFavour long-form YouTube creators over chasing viral short videos; they can show how the app is used and keep converting for years.
From the sourcePick creators by engagement (views relative to followers, about 100+ comments per video) and by repeat brand deals.
From the sourceStart with a one-video deal, check if it breaks even within a month, then sign a three- or four-video package.
From the sourceValidate in steps (newsletter, then a no-code app, then the real app) and use deadlines and milestones, not attachment, to decide whether to continue.
